Top gamers clash to make global stage

Four of the best EA Sports FIFA 19 gamers in New Zealand are about to battle it out for the right to represent their country at the inaugural FIFA eNations Cup, to be held in London next month.

Two talented Kiwis are set to take part in the event, which will bring together the world’s finest exponents of FIFA 19 – the industry-leading football simulation video game – to compete in a national team competition on the Road to the 2019 FIFA eWorld Cup™ for the very first time.

Hundreds entered the first New Zealand eNations Cup qualifier on both Xbox and Playstation. The qualifying stages of the inaugural FIFA 19 New Zealand Football National Championship took the form of a gruelling single-elimination online tournament that lasted over two days from 16-17 March.

But only four players could make the grand final. Out of nearly 230 entrants, the two national qualifiers on PlayStation 4 were HoneyBadger and JMKKing while making their way through on Xbox One were Breakaway airbrn and Gunners4ever.

Jointly run by Let’sPlay.Live, the FIFA 19 New Zealand Football National Championship Grand Final will be hosted at LPL Studios inside Auckland's iconic Sky Tower on Tuesday 26 March.

The two players on each console will come up against each other in a single elimination, best-of-three format from 7pm and, for those who can’t be at LPL Studios to witness the action first-hand, the event will be broadcast live on SKYSport and via Twitch.

The national winners on each console will then be flown all expenses paid to London to compete as a New Zealand team against their counterparts from 15 other nations on 13-14 April.

The FIFA eNations Cup is part of the FIFA 19 Global Series on the Road to the FIFA eWorld Cup™ with entrants competing for global series ranking points, as well as a first prize of US $40,000.
