Our History

New Zealand Football (NZF) was founded in 1891 and became affiliated to FIFA in 1948. Along with Australia, Fiji and Papua New Guinea, New Zealand was one of the founding members of Oceania Football Federation (OFC) when the confederation was formally approved in 1966.

New Zealand has qualified for the FIFA World Cup on two occasions, in 1982 and 2010, and has appeared at the FIFA Women’s World Cup five times, in 1991, 2007, 2011, 2015, 2019 and 2023.

Our goal is for football to be the most inclusive sport in Aotearoa New Zealand and for our members to have enjoyable experiences that will foster a lifelong love of the beautiful game.

Our Federations

New Zealand Football works in collaboration with it's six member federations to deliver football and futsal in our communities nationwide.

One Unified Brand Identity

New Zealand Football and the six member federations have joined together under one unified brand identity as part of a wider programme of work to generate more efficiency and effectiveness for members, and better serve our communities.

Aligning under one brand was one of the objectives outlined in the 'Think National, Act Local' pillar of the Delivery and Sustainability project.
