The Football Ferns will play World No 4 England on 1 June in their final preparations for the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup in France.

The Tom Sermanni-coached team will play Phil Neville’s England at Brighton and Hove Albion’s AMEX Stadium six days out from the start of the World Cup in France.

Sermanni said the fixture against one of the favourites for the FIFA Women’s World Cup will be a great challenge.

“We are really pleased with the quality of opposition we have confirmed for our build-up to the World Cup,” said Sermanni. “To play a world-class team like England so close to the tournament is ideal as we complete our preparations for our opening game of the World Cup against the Netherlands in Le Havre on 11 June.”

New Zealand have played England in three A internationals in their history. They drew once (0-0) in 2010 at the Peace Queen Cup and went down 2-1 at the 2011 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Germany and also lost 3-1 at the Cyprus Cup in 2013.

The World No 19 Ferns have a busy international calendar in 2019 as they prepare for the FIFA Women’s World Cup.

Later this month, they will compete in the inaugural Cup of Nations in Australia against the hosts, Argentina and Korea Republic.

The Football Ferns will take on Norway in two international friendlies in Spain in April before they play the World No 1 USA in May and now England in Brighton on their road to the FIFA Women’s World Cup.
