The All Whites return to Aotearoa for the first time in 2024, kicking off a series of three home matches before the year's end.

Their opening home game is an international friendly against Malaysia ahead of two crucial FIFA World Cup 2026 qualifying matches against Vanuatu and Samoa next month in Hamilton and Auckland.

Fresh off a convincing victory over Tahiti on Friday and a commendable draw against world number 18, the USA, in September, the All Whites will be eager to extend their positive momentum and secure a win against a non-OFC opponent.

While the All Whites have been competing abroad, Malaysia has been training in Auckland for the past week, including a 1-1 draw with Auckland FC in a closed-door friendly last Friday.

Likely Team:

Head coach Darren Bazeley has hinted at some fresh faces starting at North Harbour Stadium, though he is unlikely to make wholesale changes from the strong side that triumphed 3-0 over Tahiti. He confirmed that the full squad is fit and available, with no injury concerns.

One player who will be keen to make an impact is Chris Wood after he couldn’t feature in the All Whites last home games in 2023 and he scored a hattrick last time he played at the stadium.

What Head Coach Darren Bazeley Said About Malaysia:

“they’ve come across with a big squad, I know [the game] this an important part of their process, I’ve listened to what the coach has been saying.

“We need to put on a performance, at home on a good pitch. We haven’t played at home for over 18 months now, so it’s a great opportunity for us to connect with everybody back here.

“The players are well aware that it is in an opportunity for us to play a certain style and score some goals.”

Player to Watch: Safawi Rasid

The Malaysian forward is the squad's top goalscorer, having netted over 20 times for his country, including goals in two of their last three international fixtures.
