Futsal Whites exit their first ever FIFA Futsal World Cup


The Futsal Whites have concluded their first ever FIFA Futsal World Cup campaign after a defeat to Kazakhstan in their final group match in Uzbekistan.

Ranked world number 8, Kazakhstan handed New Zealand its largest loss of the tournament, winning 10-0, at Humo Arena in Tashkent.

Despite finishing with three losses, coach Marvin Eakins and his team can take pride in their debut World Cup experience. 

The Futsal Whites opened their tournament with a narrow 3-1 loss to Libya, where Jordi Ditfort scored Aotearoa New Zealand’s first-ever goal in a FIFA Futsal World Cup.

In their second match, the team showcased resilience against world number 3 Spain. They initially took the lead with a goal from Art Twigg, ending the first half tied at 1-1. However, Spain's strength prevailed in the second half, resulting in a 7-1 victory.

Throughout the tournament, the Futsal Whites received incredible support from Kiwi fans, friends, and whānau who travelled to Uzbekistan, making history as the first team from Aotearoa New Zealand to compete at this prestigious event.
