The winners were crowned in the Ford Futsal SuperLeagues this past weekend at Bruce Pulman Arena, Auckland with East Coast Bays claiming the men’s title and Papakura City winning the women's title.
East Coast Bays dominated the men’s competition winning all but one game in the league. They claimed the title by beating 2020 champions Auckland City 8-2 in the final. Resene Golden Boot winner Eduardo Exposito Espinosa claimed a double and Dominic Hawkins (younger brother of Futsal White and fellow East Coast Bays player Oban Hawkins) scored a hat-trick.
East Coast Bays also took home the MVP and Golden Glove awards. MVP was awarded to Futsal White Denny Twigg while Guilherme Garbuglia picked up the Golden Glove for a brilliant performance in the net, including scoring twice.
In the women’s competition, Papakura City won the title after beating East Coast Bay 5-4 on penalties following a 1-1 draw in normal time.
A tightly contested competition throughout, Marvin Eakins’s side claimed the trophy after Futsal Fern Danielle Bradley’s penalty save in the shootout.
The Resene Golden Boot award was won by Futsal Fern Maxine Cooper of Papakura City. Cooper also was awarded the competition’s MVP award.
The Golden Glove was awarded to East Coast Bays’ Corina Brown who proved vital at both ends of the pitch, including scoring the only goal of the match against Papakura City on day two of the competition.
