It is Round 3 of the Football Foundation Kate Sheppard Cup and Chatham Cup this weekend with 24 games being played across Aotearoa.
We have picked out four key ties to keep an eye on across both competitions as the remaining teams get closer to claiming silverware in September.
GAME 1: Auckland City v Manukau United in the Chatham Cup
18 June at 2pm | Kiwitea Street
Auckland City’s season last year ended prematurely with the Northern League cut short due to the lockdown in Tāmaki Makaurau. They were also knocked out of the Chatham Cup in the quarter-finals by Miramar Rangers. This year they will have serious ambitions of doing the double and face their first real test in fellow Northern League side Manukau United.

GAME 2: Coastal Spirit v Cashmere Technical in the Kate Sheppard Cup
18 June at 11am | St Albans Park
Very much a clash of the Christchurch powerhouses, both teams will be looking to go far in the competition with Coastal Spirit a former winner. The current top two in the Mainland Women’s Premiership, both teams will be looking to claim the bragging rights in the city before coming together to form the bulk of the Canterbury United Pride side for the National League Championship.
Looking for a tip for a goal scorer? Coastal Spirit’s Melanie Cameron has 11 goals in just 6 games in the league, including a hattrick against Cash Tech.
GAME 3: Ellerslie AFC v Northern Rovers in the Kate Sheppard Cup
19 June at 2pm | Michaels Ave Reserve
Both Ellerslie and Northern Rovers claimed significant wins in Round 2. Ellerslie comfortably defeated last year’s finalists Hamilton Wanderers 3-0. Northern Rovers needed extra time but ended up beating fellow Lotto NRFL table toppers Western Springs 2:1.
Both clubs have a strong cup pedigree with Northern Rovers (then playing as Glenfield Rovers) winning it on four occasions and Ellerslie winning it once and making the final an additional two times.
GAME 4: Auckland United v Cambridge FC in the Chatham Cup
18 June at 2pm | Keith Hay Park
Cambridge United were one of the stories of Round 2 as they knocked out the Northern League’s North Shore United, two divisions above them, in a 3-1 win. Their prize? A return to Auckland to face Auckland United who currently sit fourth in the Northern League.
Auckland United are former winners (as Onehunga Sports) and will see themselves as a club that could go far this year, powered by the goals of Joshua Redfearn who has 7 in the Northern League so far this season.
