The draw has been made for the eleventh Men’s Futsal SuperLeague, New Zealand’s national men’s futsal competition.
The Futsal SuperLeague sees sides from across the country compete over three weekend series rounds: the Southern Series at the ASB Sports Centre in Wellington from 31 October – 1 November, the Northern Series at The Peak in Hamilton from 7 – 8 November, and the National Series at the Pulman Arena in Auckland from 20 – 22 November.
The competition is made up of eight teams from across Aotearoa: Northern Comets, Auckland City FC, Bay of Plenty Surge, Waikato Rapids, Central Futsal, Capital Futsal, Canterbury United Futsal Dragons, and Southern United Futsal.
This year’s competition will see defending champions and NZF Awards Futsal Team of the Year Waikato Rapids look to defend their crown, led by Futsal Coach of the Year Sam Masterson. The competition also sees the introduction of Auckland City FC, representing the Auckland Football Federation, featuring Men’s Futsal Player of the Year and Futsal White Dylan Manickum.
Futsal is one of the fastest growing sports in the country with over 30,000 registered players. The Futsal SuperLeague 2020 was in part funded by the Government’s Sport Recovery Package announced earlier this year.
Futsal Whites Head Coach Marvin Eakins said:
“It’s great to finally know the fixtures for the new Futsal SuperLeague and have competitive national competitions running in this disrupted year, something that we didn’t know would be possible six months ago.
“I know the players, coaches, officials and support staff are all excited about us getting back on the court. It’s also great to know that supporters across the country are now allowed so I encourage everyone to come along and enjoy the 2020 SuperLeague.”
