Three teams have made a perfect start to the National Youth League, recording two wins to share the lead at the top of the table.
Defending champions Auckland City are in first place only on goal difference after edging out Southern United 2-0 while fellow pace-setters Eastern Suburbs and Team Wellington also notched their second successive victories.
Suburbs did so in fairly conventional fashion with a 3-2 defeat of the Wellington Phoenix but the action across town at Waitakere United will live long in the memory of all who witnessed it, Team Wellington eventually shaking off the challenge of the home side in a remarkable 15-goal thriller. Jesse Randall struck a hat-trick for Wellington but was upstaged by four-goal hero Seth Ward, whose efforts all came within a 14-minute period.
In the other two results, Canterbury United accounted for Hawke’s Bay United 4-0 while Tasman United and Hamilton Wanderers fought out a 1-1 draw.
The National Youth League returns this weekend with all ten sides in action again.
