National League Championship Round 3 Preview


After a free-scoring Round 2, this weekend is set to bring some interesting clashes as the both the men’s and women’s competition begin to take shape.

Here are our games to look out for…


Cashmere Technical vs Wellington Olympic

12:00PM / Oct 7 / Nga Puna Wai

The winner of the Central League takes on the runners up for the Southern League. Olympic sit comfortably at the top of the National League after two games meanwhile Cashmere Technical have had a win and a loss to start the season. With both teams coming off of big win in Round 2, there are sure to be goals.

Player to watch:

Jack-Henry Sinclair:

Sinclair has consistently been a top performer in the Central League and currently leads the golden boot race for the National League Championship with 4 goals after 2 games, including a hat-trick and an assist last weekend. Usually known providing assists from the wide positions, Sinclair is deadly this season as both a finisher and creator.

CF Waterside Karori vs Auckland United

It’s the champions of Auckland vs the champions of Wellington as Lotto NRFL Women's Premiership holders Auckland United travel to face a CF Waterside Karori side predominantly made up of the women’s Central League winners. Karori are undefeated while Auckland United have recorded a  win and a loss so far.

Player to watch:

Nikki Furukawa:

Furukawa is in hot form after a hat-trick against Southern United in her last game. She scored from outside and inside the box showing that if she is given space she can be dangerous from anywhere.

Wellington Phoenix Reserves vs Manurewa AFC

Wellington Phoenix Reserves and Manurewa AFC can claim to have had the toughest starts to the season. The Nix have lost both games so far against Northern League winners Auckland City and Southern League winners Christchurch United, with Manurewa also facing ACFC as well as Central League winners Wellington Olympic.

Both will see this weekend as the perfect opportunity to get their first points on the board after successful regional seasons.

Player to watch:

Ronaldo Munoz:

After finding the back of the net on matchday one against Wellington Olympic, Munoz will be looking to get into dangerous positions again this weekend. Munoz is a pacey player with smart movement, link up play and an eye for goal.

Central Football vs Canterbury United Pride

12:00PM / Oct 7 / Massey University


Central Football and Canterbury United Pride are both yet to get off the mark this season. Both will be looking to change that this weekend.

The Pride have traditionally been the stronger side but last time they met in the 2022 season it was a close affair with Central going down 2:3.  

Player to watch:

Ruby-Aroha Gurnick

An exciting flair player from Central Football who has shown moments of brilliance against strong sides like Wellington United and Western Springs in the opening two matches. She will be looking to take hold of the match against Canterbury and help her team to their first points of the season.
