The Round 2 draws were made today for the NZ Football Foundation Kate Sheppard Cup and Chatham Cup 2022.
All games will be played over Queens Birthday Weekend.
NZ Football Foundation Kate Sheppard Cup:
With the NRFL’s top two teams drawn to play one another one of the NRFL’s front-runners and likely favourites for the NZ Football Foundation Kate Sheppard Cup will see their campaign end much earlier than they would have liked. They played out a 0-0 draw in their league encounter at the beginning of May – the only goalless game so far this NRFL campaign.
This isn’t the only NRFL match up in this round, as 2021 Cup finalists Hamilton Wanderers get set to travel to Ellerslie. The teams have met in the last two Cup campaigns with Wanderers coming out on top both times – can they secure the threepeat?
Holders Wellington United kick off their Cup defence by travelling up the Coast to Kapiti Coast AFC, while W-League rivals Waterside Karori travel even further – to Taranaki, to take on New Plymouth Rangers.
Meanwhile in the South Island, Mainland Women’s Premiership table toppers Coastal Spirit will take on Nelson Pine Women’s Premiership leaders Nelson Suburbs.

Chatham Cup
Sunday League success story Sperm Whales FC will be hoping to continue their Cup run when they host NRFL Division 1 side Metro FC in their Round Two Chatham Cup fixture. Having already dealt with NRFL 2 side Ngaruawahia United, the Whales will be looking to go one step further in the Cup against a team one division higher than their Round One opponents. Bay Olympic hold the dubious honour of the longest away trip of the round, travelling to Taupo AFC.
Holders Cashmere Technical begin their defence of the Cup by taking on Selwyn United. They have the favour of the form book, having beaten their Southern League rivals 2-1 in mid-April.
Meanwhile one of the Central League’s front runners will be staring down the barrel of an early Cup exit when 2021 Chatham Cup runners up Miramar Rangers AFC pop to Waterside Karori. In the league Karori has had the edge this season, beating Rangers 3-2 back in early April.
