Auckland City FC’s Gordon Watson wins at Māori Sports Awards

Auckland City FC’s Gordon Watson has been awarded Māori Sports Administrator of the Year at the Māori Sports Awards 2024, continuing a great week for the team after winning the National League Championship Grand Final.

The award recognised Watson’s role in another big season for the Auckland City FC, which will continue in 2025 when the team take part in the new FIFA Club World Cup. 

Interim Ford Football Ferns head coach Michael Mayne was also nominated for Māori Sports Coach of the Year, with the award going to Black Ferns Sevens coach Cory Sweeney after leading the team to gold at Paris 2024. 

Referee Campbell-Kirk Kawana-Waugh was also nominated in the Māori Sports Umpire/Referee of the Year category.
