AUCKLAND – The addition of players’ player awards for the All Whites and Football Ferns as well as a host of community and club focussed awards headline New Zealand Football’s annual awards dinner to be held in Hamilton this Thursday night.

While the winners of eight major awards have been decided by votes from a broad panel comprised of national team and national league coaches, former internationals, administrators and football media, members of the All Whites and Football Ferns have cast their votes to recognise their own.

Winston Reid, Ben Sigmund and Michael McGlinchey have been recognised by their peers as finalists for the new men’s award while Sigmund and Reid are also finalists for the Nike Men’s Player Award along with Chris Wood. Wood, is also a candidate for the Nike Men’s Young Player of the Year.

Amber Hearn is the only Football Fern to appear in both the Nike Women’s Player of the Year and players’ player fields. Her teammates have also voted Abby Erceg and Katie Hoyle as finalists for players’ player, while Rebecca Smith and Ali Riley make up the finalists for Nike Women’s Player of the Year.

The awards also see the introduction of four community and development awards, coinciding with the roll-out of the Whole of Football Plan, NZF’s development blueprint, across the country and recognising outstanding achievements and contributions by volunteers and clubs at a community level.

The evening will recognise the ASB Whole of Football Club of the Year, the Outstanding Volunteer of the Year, Commercial Partnership Award while the All Whites have thrown their support behind the Community Impact Award for clubs.

The winners will be announced at an invitation-only evening function at Sky City, Hamilton on Thursday 31 May and will also incorporate the New Zealand Soccer Media Awards for 2011.

The time period covered by the 2011 NZF Awards is from January to December 2011 with the exception of ASB Premiership and ASB Women’s League awards which relate to the 2011-12 season.
