AUCKLAND – All Whites striker Chris Wood celebrated his 20th birthday with his 11th goal of the season but any joy was dampened as Birmingham City fell 2-1 away to Hull.
Wood’s low strike from just inside the area handed Birmingham a 34th minute lead but the home side struck twice in the second half to collect all three points and move up to sixth place.
Birmingham, meanwhile lie 14th seven points off the top six pace but with two games in hand.
Wood, on loan from West Bromwich Albion, has now scored nine times in the league to sit third on the golden boot table.
The former Waikato FC starlet has also scored twice in the UEFA Europa League where Birmingham currently lie third in Group H, needing a win against Maribor next Friday (NZT) to have any chance of progressing.
Wood made his New Zealand debut against Tanzania in 2009 as a 17-year-old and has so far featured 17 times for the All Whites, scoring one goal.
