ADVANCED COACHING

The OFC/NZF Futsal C Licence is the starting point for Youth and Senior team futsal coaches on the advanced coaching pathway. The course equips coaches with the tools and knowledge needed to support players on aspiring pathways.

Coaches learn how to apply New Zealand Football’s coaching process — identifying a ‘futsal problem’ from a game, then designing, delivering, and evaluating a session to address it. Sessions are built using NZF’s Game Training methodology, with a focus on game design constraints and coaching interventions to enhance player understanding.

Key topics covered include physical preparation for playing, developing your coaching identity, and how vision and philosophy underpin your coaching approach. However, the main focus remains on delivering effective, practical sessions on the court.

The Futsal C Licence course is delivered over four days in person, blending practical and theory-based learning, with online modules before and after the course. Coaches are awarded the qualification after successfully completing their Learning Portfolio and a post-course assessment involving planning, conducting, and evaluating a session in their own environment, supported by a mentor.

Entry Criteria

Entry is by registration. There is currently no prerequisite; however, it is desirable that coaches:

• Are coaching at youth or senior level (this is not for coaches of Juniors)
• Are aspirational and want to engage in learning.
• Have access to a team for applying their course learnings

The OFC/NZF Futsal C Licences are delivered once per year or as demand requires and are advertised approximately six months prior to delivery.

The OFC/NZF Goalkeeping B Licence is the second-highest goalkeeping coaching qualification within the Oceania and New Zealand Football coach education pathway. It is designed for experienced goalkeeper coaches working in advanced youth and senior football environments. The licence is intended for coaches to develop and enhance their ability to contribute to goalkeeper and team performance within the wider coaching environment.

The objective of the course is to support coaches in refining their coaching practice through the five key areas of the Professional Coaches Model: Football Knowledge, Football Training, Match Requirements, Knowing Yourself as a Coach, and Vision and Philosophy. Coaches will be challenged to develop their coaching process, bring goalkeeper learning to life through match realism, and effectively integrate outfield players within training environments. Coaches will develop their ability to work collaboratively within the wider coaching environment, integrating specialist goalkeeper knowledge to positively influence both individual and team performance.

This is a 10 day course (split into two 5-day face-to-face blocks). Supported by Distance Learning Tasks (DLTs), reflection, mentoring, and ongoing learning. Coaches are required to demonstrate their ability to transfer learning directly into their coaching practice and environment.

The programme is delivered over a minimum of 12 months, allowing coaches time to apply, reflect on, and demonstrate learning within their own environment.

Successful completion of all course requirements, including the final assessment, will result in the awarding of the OFC/NZF Goalkeeping B Licence and 100 Continual Professional Development (CPD) points.

Entry Criteria

The OFC/NZF Goalkeeping (GK) B Licence is intended for coaches working within advanced youth and senior football environments.

Entry is by application, and applicants are typically assessed against the following criteria:

• Held a GK C Licence for a minimum period as specified in the application criteria
• Level of coaching — working with youth or senior goalkeepers
• Goalkeeper coaching experience
• Playing experience
• GK C Licence competence
• Outfield Licences held

The OFC/NZF Goalkeeping (GK) B Licence runs approximately every two years. Applications will open in June 2027 for the 2028 course.

The OFC/NZF Goalkeeping A Licence is the highest goalkeeping coaching qualification within the Oceania and New Zealand Football coach education pathway. It is designed for experienced goalkeeper coaches working in advanced youth, senior, and high-performance football environments. The licence is intended for coaches seeking to lead and influence goalkeeper development within professional, national team, academy, and other high-performance settings.

The objective of the course is to support coaches in refining and advancing their coaching practice to operate effectively within elite performance environments. Coaches will be challenged to critically analyse their coaching, question existing assumptions, and develop innovative solutions that enhance goalkeeper development within their current and future contexts. Coaches will develop their ability to operate within a multidisciplinary performance team, contributing specialist goalkeeper expertise while supporting the wider objectives of the team.

This is a 14 day course (split into two 7-day face-to-face blocks). Supported by Distance Learning Tasks (DLTs), reflection, mentoring, and ongoing learning. Coaches are required to demonstrate their ability to transfer learning directly into their coaching practice and environment.

The programme is delivered over a minimum of 12 months, allowing coaches time to apply, reflect on, and demonstrate learning within their own environment.

• Level of coaching — working with youth or senior goalkeepers
• Goalkeeper coaching experience
• Playing experience
• GK B Licence competence
• Outfield Licences held

The OFC/NZF Goalkeeping (GK) A Licence runs approximately every three years. Applications will open in June 2026 for the inaugural 2027 course.
